This month, students will practice a variety of muscular strength and endurance activities in Physical Education class. Some of these activities will completed in sports specific lessons or fitness stations.
In Kindergarten and 1st grade, students will practice muscular endurance activities such as squats, lunges, ABC push-ups and sit ups. In addition, we will practice skills that improve eye-hand coordination such as dribbling a basketball, catching and throwing objects to themselves. Students will also play special games such as castleball and number basketball.
In 2nd and 3rd grade, students will continue learning basketball skills such as passing, dribbling, shooting and rebounding. Students will be placed on teams and complete challenges under specific parameters from the teacher. At the conclusion of the basketball unit, students will play modified basketball games. In addition, we will practice muscular fitness activities such as the push-up and curl-up.
In 4th and 5th grade, students will participate in fitnessgram assessments such as the push-up and curl-up test. Students will learn the difference between a muscular strength and muscular endurance activity.

We will continue participating in the sports league program where students are required complete their job responsibilities. Coaches will develop game plans that give everyone on their team an opportunity to contribute in the basketball games.
