Dear 5th Grade Families,
Here are the practice tasks for this upcoming week. Please remember your child is supposed to practice 50 minutes a week according to Lower Lab’s Homework Policy.
Warm-Up – Practice the G Major scale using the rhythms we learned/played in class this week. One rhythm is dotted quarter note with an eighth note. This is what we call hooked bowing. In addition, please play this as eighth notes. Repeat each note two times.
The Caissons Go Rolling Along Measures 11 to 16 and Measures 43 to 44 – Cellos remember to play B flat on the A string we put our first finger towards he nut of the instrument. In other words play with a low first finger on the A string. This is what we call an extension. Cellists, remember to keep your other fingers close to the fingerboard that way you will play each note on time. For everyone, remember to start at a slow tempo and gradually increase the speed. This piece is supposed to sound like a march. The performance tempo is quarter note equals 92 beats per minute (bpm). I would start practicing with a metronome setting the quarter note to 80 – 83 beats per minute (bpm) and gradually increase the tempo.
A Very Short History of Music – Please continue to practice this piece, especially with any sections that are still challenging for you. I would also use a metronome, while practicing this piece. The performance tempo for this piece is quarter note equals 92 beats per minute (bpm). Any sections still giving you trouble should be first practiced at quarter note equals 80 – 83 beats per minute (bpm). Both A Very Short History of Music and The Caissons Go Rolling have a performance tempo of 92 beats per minute (bpm).
If you have any questions, please do note hesitate to ask me from 8:00 to 8:15 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.
All the best,
