Dear 5th Grade Families,
Here are the practice tasks for the next two weeks. I understand some of you are going away. However, please have your child practice as much as they can before they go away. I would recommend 15 to 20 minutes a day. I am confident your child will see an improvement within their playing if they practice consistently.
Essential Elements #130 – Practice going from C natural to C#s the way we did in class. Make sure the difference between the two notes is audible. Quietly slide your 2nd finger from in between the first and second finger tapes to the second finger tape on the A string.
Caissons Go Rolling Along Measures 11 – 16 – Pleasure practice the eighth note figure from measure 11 to measure 12. Please also make sure you are holding the dotted quarter note for the correct length. If you are sub-dividing into eighth notes, remember that three eighth notes go into one dotted quarter note.
A Very Short History of Music Entire Piece – Please continue to practice parts that are giving you trouble within this piece. The beginning to measure 17 still needs work. In addition please make sure you are counting correctly from measures 40 to 51. Continue to use a metronome to ensure you are playing very steady. Remember the quarter note equals 92 beats per minute (bpm) is our performance tempo. I would start at quarter note equals 75 to 80 beats per minute (bpm) then gradually increase the tempo.
Extra – If any of you are looking for something to do during the midwinter break, please take a look at That’s What I Like and the other measures within the Caissons Go Rolling Along. Please listen to the recordings I have provided to help you learn the pieces.
