Dear 5th Grade Families,
Here are the practice tasks for this week. I thought it would be beneficial for us to spend another week on the areas we addressed last week. I want us to feel confident within theses areas of our playing.
Essential Elements #53: Olympic Challenge (page 17) – Please practice this as written. Remember the last note should be short, because there are three beats of rests. After practicing this as written, please play #53 with the first beat remaining as a quarter note, and beats two, three, and four played as eighth notes. It might be helpful to clap this pattern first, before playing it. Using a metronome will help you too.
Caissons Go Rolling Along (measures 29 to 44) – Violins and violas please make sure you are confident with the melody at measure 31. Remember a dotted quarter note is 1 and 1/2 beats. Same idea for cellos and bass at measure 35 and 39. First violins, second violins, and violas please make sure you are holding the whole notes for four beats. Again a metronome is your best friend.
A Very Short History of Music (measures 52 to end) – Be careful about switching from 3/4 to 4/4 and vice versa. Violins and violas please also practice measures 61 and 62 slowly and gradually increase your tempo. Be mindful about the duration of each note too.
All the best,
