5th Grade Practice Tasks for Week of 3/25/19 to 3/31/19

Dear 5th Grade Families,

Here are the practice tasks for this upcoming week.

Essential Elements #59 – Please play 59 as written.  Once you are able to play it with the correct notes, a steady tempo, and accurate rhythm, change the rhythm to the following: first beat becomes a quarter rest, second beat into two eighth notes, third beat and fourth beats are played as quarter notes.  This is the same rhythm we have at measures 21 to 27 within Caissons Go Rolling Along.

Caissons Go Rolling Along Measures 21 to 28 – Make sure you are resting on the first beat.  I would clap out the rhythm from measures 21 to 28, before you play.  In addition, to measures 21 to 28, I would make sure you are able to play measures 29-44, and measures 11 to 16.  We want to make sure these sections don’t get lost in our fingers.

A Very Short History of Music – Please continue to listen to the recording on JW Pepper.  Here is a recording of the piece.  https://www.jwpepper.com/A-%28Very%29-Short-History-of-Music/10872084.item#/submit.

It is important you are able to transition from each tune to another without hesitation.  For instance measures 7 to 8, measures 17 to 18, measures 23 to 24, measures 31 to 32, 39 to 40, and measures 51 to 52.  Make sure you also know where you are changing from 3/4 to 4/4 time signature and vice versa.

If you have any questions please come see from 8:00 to 8:15 on Mondays to Thursdays.

Thank you,

Ms. Waldman
