Summer Letter from 5th Grade Teachers

August, 2019

Dear Lower Lab School Class of 2020,

Welcome to fifth grade!  We hope your summers are going well and you are preparing yourself for a successful school year.  We would like you to use your last few weeks of summer to brush up on your multiplication facts (up to 12×12) and read Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan (you don’t need to purchase the book or bring it to school, but be ready to discuss the text with your classmates).

In fifth grade, you will be responsible for bringing and maintaining a pencil bag (no pencil boxes) for the duration of the school year.  If your family ordered supplies through 1st Day School Supplies, your items will come directly to the school, if your family plans to purchase your own supplies, see the attached list for the items you will need (we have suggested below how to organize your supplies for September).

Claudia Coia (Room 218 Homeroom, Math & Science Teacher) &

Jordyn Margolis (Room 220 Homeroom, Literacy & Social Studies Teacher)

Pencil Bag Contents

(If you ordered supplies through 1st Day, a pencil bag is not included.

Bags should be at least 9”x6” with a sturdy zipper)

●      2-3 pencils (these will be distributed at school) ●      1 black Sharpie (fine tip)
●      1 black flair pen ●      5” scissors
●      6” ruler ●      1 pack Post-Its 3×3”
Please bring your pencil bag packed and ready for use on the first day of school.  Your school supply order will include more than what’s needed above, so we will store the extras at school and re-fill as needed. If you purchase your own supplies, you may send them to school or re-fill your pencil bag at home.
