Welcome to Fifth Grade

Welcome back!  We hope everyone had a restful summer and we are looking forward to working with you and your child during this important transition year.

We will discuss our curriculum and routines in detail during the upcoming Parent Night on September 12th, 2019 in Room 218 (time TBD).

We will go over all of this with the students tomorrow, but a few points of interest for families until we see you on the 12th…

Throughout this school year, students will use a black folder that will be used to transport homework and notes to and from school each day.  If you have a note for anyone in the school community, please put it in the black folder and it will be delivered as marked. (This folder tends to get ‘full’ very quickly; students should not be keeping academic papers in this folder full time.  We will teach them how to manage their papers, but please encourage them to stay organized!)

Students should come to school each day prepared with the following:

  • Pencil Bag (1 black flair pen, 2-3 pencils, small scissors, 6” ruler, a Sharpie, and a pack of post-its)
  • Independent Reading Book
  • Planner (provided by school and arriving shortly)
  • Black Home/School Folder
  • Completed homework & relevant notebooks/resources

Tomorrow, your fifth grader will bring home their daily schedule.  We will support the students as they learn the routines of a departmentalized schedule and we are certain they will have their day to day committed to memory very soon!

Please submit a finalized, five day dismissal schedule in writing as soon as possible. Any time there is a change to your child’s dismissal schedule, handwritten notes are preferred.

Please send an email to Claudia at ccoia@lowerlab.org and Jordyn at jmargolis@lowerlab.org with your child’s name in the subject line by Monday so we can create an email list.

Please contact us with any questions and we look forward to an exciting and productive senior year at The Lower Lab School!
