Dear 4th Grade Families,
Here are the practice tasks for this upcoming week. Please practice Essential Elements #9 through 12.
Essential Elements #10 – Practice fingering G on the D string. It’s three fingers on the third tape for violins and violas. For cellos, it’s fourth finger on the third tape. Remember to place all your fingers down on the corresponding tapes. First finger for the first tape, second finger for the second tape (violins and violas), and third finger on the third tape. For cellos, it is first finger on the first tape, second finger in between the first and second tapes, third finger on the second tape, and fourth finger on the third tape. For bass, it would be just open G.
Essential Elements #11 – Practice fingering F# on the D string. Violins and violas lift your third finger off the third tape and that’s how you play F#. It’s two fingers on the second tape. For cellos, lift your 4th finger off the third tape and you would leave the other fingers down. That’s how you play F#. For bass, put your first finger on the first tape on the D string and your fourth finger on the second tape.
Essential Elements #12 – Before you play this, I suggest fingering the notes on your instrument with no sound. Once you feel confident with this, then you can play it pizzicato, and if you really feel confident you can add the bow.
Essential Elements #13 – Same thing as #12.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
All the best,
