This coming month, the students will practice basketball skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting and rebounding. In grades K through 2, these skills will be presented to the students in stations. In the upper grades, students will play modified games that allow students to put their skills to use in competitive games. In addition to basketball, students will practice exercises that improve muscular strength and muscular endurance. The muscular endurance exercises for students in grades K through 2 include knee push-ups, abc push-ups, spaghetti and meatballs (modified sit-up), squats and lunges. The students in grades 3 through 5 will practice push-ups, sit-ups, leg lifts, squats, reverse squats, lunges and planks. Students in grades 4 and 5 will participate in fitnessgram assessments such as the push-up and sit-up test. As always, students will practice sportsmanship and teamwork by shaking hands, making eye-contact and exchanging pleasant comments with their classmates at the end of activities. Please make sure your child brings a water bottle and sneakers to PE every time they have class.
