Dear 2nd Grade Families,
We will be singing two wonderful songs for our Winter Sing on Wednesday, January 29th, 2020. One is Erie Canal and the other is Everybody Wants to Be a Cat. I have included links of these songs for children to watch/listen to the songs. I plan to give students the lyrics to the songs next week. Parents, please help your children prepare for the Winter Sing by having them watch\/listen to the videos as they following along with the lyrics. It will help them learn the songs faster and they will feel confident for the Winter Sing. Thank you for your support. I greatly appreciate it. Happy practicing.
All the best,
Erie Canal is a folk song (that means there are thousands of versions of this song), so it was challenging to find a version with someone singing the version we will be singing for the Winter Sing. I would still recommend listening to this version because the notes don’t change and it’s important to get the melody in your ear. least you can listen to the melody. The melody and notes don’t really change. This one is sung by Bruce Springstein and it tells the history of the Erie Canal, which is useful. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Koj5yGigFNU
Here is Pete Seeger is singing this version at a children’s concert. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9d1Revan-1w
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rrXR6n0RTY (Everybody Wants to Be A Cat) There is a part in the middle we won’t be singing, but it is still a fun video to watch and sing.
