Inventing secret codes encourages kids to write. Suggest that your child make one using a picture of something that starts with each letter (bird = B, quarter = Q). Take turns writing messages for each other to decode.
Turn your child into a paper engineer by researching “pop-up” designs online (search for “how to make pop-ups”). Then, get construction paper and glue, and let your youngster make a card for a friend or a pop-up book for a sibling.
